he specs: A series of low-slu
ng terra-cotta-colored bungalows next to Menara Gardens, a 220-acre rosebush-strewn patch of green. The 141-room hotel is ten minutes from the airport and five minutes by taxi from Djemaa el Fna Square. Rooms have private balconies. The look: Minimalist Morocco. There are some lovely touches, such as the filigreed-silver cabinets on each floor’s landing, but the cream-and-taupe palette will disappoint Moroccan maximalists. The experience: If you’ve come to Marrakech to absorb its romance, clamor, and color, then the Four Seasons is probably not for you. On the other hand, travelers needing a respite from the city will find it here. The hotel answers the needs of families with children, too, with a kids’ center, a family pool (an adults-only pool is some distance away), two tennis courts, and a staff who treat guests of all ages with courtesy and respect. The crowd is mostly well-heeled French and American retirees and families of every nationality. If only…those beautiful tiled floors were soundproof. Although you won’t see the little ones—the layout is such that you rarely see anyone—you’ll hear them. (212-524-359-200; doubles from $495).
